Are dress sizes extended when you get a bigger size?

I’m ordering a dress and It says that at a size small it is 24 inches. I ordered a medium does that mean that the dress would be longer?

I think they are usually slightly longer… But not too noticeably?
I think they are usually longer because the fabric has a larger area to cover perhaps?
