Is it bad for clothes to hang on a hanger for over a year?

I gained a lot of weight in a short amount of time; needless to say, I outgrew all my clothes. Determined to lose the weight just as quickly, I refused to give away my clothes. Two years later, I’m almost back at my “before” weight. I’m worried about the clothes that have been hanging in my closet. After reading an article in a magazine, I took down my fragile sweaters and realized they were better off folded in a drawer. But I don’t have enough drawers for my closet clothes.

Is there anything else I should do with my clothes so they don’t get out of shape? Are there certain clothes that shouldn’t be hung? I hang most of the camisoles and dresses from the hanger loops instead of the straps.

I don’t think it really matters. You did the right thing with your sweaters, but other than that if the article of clothing looks funny when you take it off the hanger, just wash it and it will go back to normal. I have several items in my closet that I haven’t worn in over a year (I really need to clean out my closet) and if I want to wear one I just wash it first. It just freshens it up.
